Wind Mobile Towers in Vancouver

I and many others have been trying to get an idea of what Wind’s home zone is going to look like in Vancouver. Some info is available, but as far as I can tell there aren’t any maps yet. I went ahead and put one together, and although I make no claim to it’s accuracy the data comes straight from Industry Canada. Please note that these are base stations Globalive is licensed to build and they will not all necessarily be ready for launch.

It looks pretty expansive although I can already see some potential problems. I can’t wait to see what coverage will actually be later this quarter in Q1-Q3. Feel free to comment and share.

UPDATE: There’s an awesome, updated map available now. You can even overlay different carriers and zoom in on your area. :D

Any towers east of this, such as Abbotsford, Yarrow, or Chilliwack? (Please!)

  2. Brendan says:

    Hi Bev,
Not at launch. Network is probably going to fade off around Langley for now, but I bet Abbotsford will get covered soon enough.

    Good luck!
    Brendan

even delta / surrey / langley is not covered.. what to talk about abbotsford.

  4. Brendan says:

Surrey is mostly covered. They’re understating coverage while they work out things east of the river.

  6. A year has gone by and still no phone plans in Kelowna. When is it coming?

    • Brendan says:

Victoria is next on the map for WIND and Mobilicity. After that its hard to say, but Kelowna (or anywhere East of Abotsford in BC) is likely more than a year off at this point.

The good news is the new entrants have encouraged the Big 3 and sub-brands to offer some better plans. Koodo (a division of TELUS) offers this plan for $45: Unlimited Local Calling†, Unlimited Messaging (Text and Picture)±, Unlimited Local Family Calling§, Call Display Included, Includes Call Waiting, Conference Calling and Per-Second Billing – https://shop.koodomobile.com/plans/ready-made-combos/index.html

Clearnet, another TELUS subsidiary, is offering plans in Kelowna and Red Deer only – http://www.clearnet.com/plans/

Rogers is also offering some decent plans on the Fido brand, but the best ones are reserved for big cities where WIND an Mobi have a prescence (scummy move, eh?). Hopefully one big companies can tide you over until WIND gets into the interior.
