Change is Strange

The world is full habits and quirks, and over time people come to accept all that quirkiness. A lot of the time it seems that acceptance evolves into some sort of dependence. Soon we find ourselves addicted to the way things work. This can be observed in everyday life, but if you’re looking for some proof right now take a look at the reaction to the “New Facebook”. It sounds like a great number of people absolutely hate it. But what is it that people hate?

Dark Intentions 1.4 Release

Some of you may have seen my post on the MyBB Community Forums yesterday. I put up a screenshot and beta version for download, and today I think Dark Intentions (1.4.1) is ready its real release. The theme brings a sleek, high-contrast look to MyBB and increases ergonomics of the GUI. The K2/WordPress inspired header gives you quick access to important features and pages at-a-glance, and the enhanced breadcrumb makes its easier to see which page your on and where you’ve been. Buttons have been changed from images to HTML elements to save bandwidth and to facilitate some nifty rollovers.

Dark Intentions is full of cool stuff, and I have more great plans for it in the future. To change the tagline (under your forums name), login to your Admin CP > Templates and Style tab > Templates > Dark Intentions > header > header > and you should be able to edit the text to you’re liking there. I plan to introduce a plugin to make changing the tagline and other elements of Dark Intentions easier. Worth noting are the facts that some of the buttons are hardcoded English. This is because there was no usable lang variables for some. They can easily be adjusted for your language (easier I say than Photoshoping every single button). Also, this version doesn’t include the multiquote feature, but I plan to fix this in a subsequent release in the coming weeks (I’ll provide update instructions too).

Anyways, enjoy the theme and thanks for tolerating the long wait.

iMac as Darkly Intended

My replacement computer arrived the other day. The screen isn’t prefect, but it is much better. I’m going to use it as is and consider having the display replaced at a later time, but I am more than happy with my shiny new 2′ iMac.

As promised, I started work on Dark Intentions 1.4. Its coming along nicely. I need to add some buttons, iron a few areas and insert all the little niceties. We should see a release some time this week. I’m serious this time. I’m also happy to tell you that I intend to provide an enhanced version sometime down the line. It will be easier to customize, and may even integrate in to your K2/WordPress site. We’ll see how it goes.

YouTube is now Quacktaculous

I finally got around to making a YouTube account and uploading something. Enjoy this stop-motion short.

Refurbished 24″ iMac

As some of you are painfully aware (due to my lack of progress on a few projects) I’m in the process of getting a new computer. I had been using a MacBook as a desktop replacement, but I was starting to feel the lousy integrated graphics, the slow 2.5″ HD and the overall irritation of running a notebook in clamshell mode.

So last Sunday I followed the advice of many veteran Mac users and pulled up the Apple refurbished section. Its stocked with nearly everything in the regular store at a great discount. For the savings you give up the gorgeous retail boxes (refurbs ship in a plain brown box). That’s it, really. The product may have been taken home by another customer, but has since been returned to Apple and reconditioned. This process involves replacement of any internal parts, if necessary, and a thorough cleaning or case replacement. Refurbs arrive in perfect cosmetic condition with no scratches, scuffs or imperfections with brand new keyboards, mice and accessories. They have same warranty as new Macs and are generally better inspected than new machines. Mine apparently fell through the cracks.
